How was the MSP-Vector born?

Two years ago, the 2020 iGEM team took the initiative and decided to create an open-access peer reviewed journal exclusive to iGEM. The name they picked was MSP-Vector. The aim of the journal is to offer all iGEM teams the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the process of publishing and peer reviewing.

Young researchers such as those taking part in the iGEM competition do not often get the chance to confront themselves with the actual publishing and peer review process. Additionally, they do not often confront themselves with scientific writing.

The MSP-Vector presents itself as a way of filling this knowledge gap, collecting all the information that would typically appear on a team’s wiki.

The 2021 MSP-iGEM team carried on the tradition, and published the second edition of the MSP-Vector. The team introduced the use of Open Journal System, which replaced the manual system of the 2020 team, and created a website for the journal.

This year, we are giving you the third edition of the journal!

What is new?

The third edition will have new, exciting features!

First of all, a new landing website was created, where you can find all the information regarding publishing and peer reviewing.

Additionally, we are offering the consensus top three articles the opportunity to be reviewed by experts in scientific publishing and synthetic biology. This will give the winning teams the opportunity to receive feedback from researchers and editors with great experience in scientific publishing. Their feedback will be published along with the articles in the journal itself.
